Easily digestible ingredients, considered a dietary classic for upset stomach and often recommended by veterinarians.
For dogs allergic to chicken, protein can be replaced with lean beef. For a healthier rice alternative, consider using quinoa or buckwheat. If you wish to avoid grains entirely, serve lean meat with cooked cauliflower, butternut squash, or sweet potatoes.
Avoid legumes, as they may cause bloating.
Maintain a 50:50 ratio between protein and grains/vegetables.
The meal size depends on the size of the dog. For this short-term diet (maximum 2-3 days), rough estimation will do. Compare quantity of soaked kibble and cooked food. Feed with deficit.
Ingredients:
- Rice
- Chicken breasts
Additional Tips for Ingredient Selection:
Choose rice that cooks well; opt for husked rice suitable for risotto.
Choose organically raised chicken to avoid antibiotics, if possible.
If the dog is allergic to chicken, substitute with lean beef (boneless thigh or back) or salmon (choose wild-caught or wild salmon).
Instructions:
1. Rinse the meat under cold running water and place it a large pot.
2. Pour water over the meat and cook over medium heat. You can cut the meat for faster cooking or cook boneless breasts whole and then shred them into smaller pieces.
3. Drain the cooked meat and let it cool to room temperature before feeding.
4. Measure the rice, rinse it thoroughly under running water. Place it in a pot, leveling it at the bottom. Measure water by placing your thumb vertically against the rice surface and add water up to the first joint.
5. Boil the rice over high heat in an open pot, then reduce the temperature. Cook the rice until the water starts to run out, forming small holes on the surface resembling craters. Cover the rice, remove it from heat, and let it rest for at least half an hour. Before serving the rice with meat to the dog, let it cool.
6. Contrary to popular belief, rice is not a long-lasting food. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. If you want to use it for feeding the dog after 24 hours, you must reheat it to destroy molds that will undoubtedly have formed during that time, even if they are not visible to the naked eye.
7. Serve 50:50 meat to rice ration. Never serve hot or cold from the fridge.
